Falls Creek

Falls Creek is one of the most strikingly beautiful places we visited on our recent bike trip. It is astonishing to find this ski resort in the beautiful Alpine region after driving through such excruciating heat earlier on.
A huge fire swept through the valley five years ago, so all you can see now is the white of the Snowgum trees with their new branches shooting out from the bottom. At the top of the peaks, the Snowgums are shorter and thicker as a result of being weighed down by more snow over the years:
There are white Snowgum skeletons as far as the eye can see. Most of these pictures were taken from the back of the motorcycle at relatively high speed, so that was the best I could do under the circumstances:
Marius looking out over some of the slopes:
Our friends Marnie and JJ of Kilimanjaro Alpine Apartments wined and dined us in true 5 star fashion. We are definitely planning to go back there in winter to play in the snow!

  2. Wish you could have seen it through your own eyes! I did not manage to capture an inch of its beauty as we were speeding past on the motorcycle and I was using a small Panasonic Lumix. If there was just more time..
