Sad, sad trees

On our recent bike trip to Victoria and New South Wales, we traveled through Marysville and witnessed the terrible devastation of the bushfires that destroyed the town almost a year ago. So much sadness. These pictures were taken "on the fly" from the back of the motorbike, so it is a bit out of focus.
It was good to see the undergrowth shooting up again.
Some of the trees show "feathering" or "agony shoots". Life!
I asked Marius to stand next to this tree so that I can try and capture its size without losing him out of the picture completely.
Most of the ancient trees and historical buildings that stood in the town were swept away in the fire, together with so many people and animals. The town of Marysville is being rebuilt, but it will never be the same again. I did not take any photographs in the town. There is just such emptiness, it felt wrong to try and capture it.
